I am extremely upset about Komen’s stripping of funds to Planned Parenthood.

I’m not normally super up-to-date with abortion news, however I would consider myself very much pro-choice. But the news today about Komen vs Planned Parenthood hit a nerve with me.

My mother was diagnosed with breast cancer almost 2 years ago now, and so we’ve been involved with Susan G. Komen for as long. We’ve raised money doing the Race for the Cure. We’ve donated our money and time to them to help other women be as lucky as my mother is with her cancer prognosis.

The fact that Komen cut off funding for Planned Parenthood due to (obviously) political reasons makes me sick. They funded breast cancer screenings for women who otherwise would probably not have been able to afford to do so at other clinics.

WHERE DOES ABORTION COME INTO THIS??

Simply because there have been so many attacks against Planned Parenthood, and because there have been completely unnecessary investigations against it, the funding was cut for breast cancer screenings. Because Planned Parenthood will also do abortions.

Is that all they do? No.

Is that the majority of what they do? No.

This is doing NOTHING to hurt the abortion side of things. This is hurting the women who need CANCER screenings. Women who don’t have the means to do so otherwise. Or perhaps women like myself who need to get screened earlier in life because family members had breast cancer, and I might not have the financial ability to get it done at another medical facility in my late 20’s.

FURIOUS.
